Timothy Price, CEO & Managing Director of TheMarketDetroit, is a veteran of Detroit’s art, fashion, and music industries, as well queer activist. Tim was recently appointed Chairman of Hamtramck’s Arts & Culture Commission. An early advocate for the city’s electronic music community, Price spent much of the ‘90s working with various techno record labels and event companies before helping to launch the inaugural Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2000, and Carl Craig’s assistant Artistic Director ‘01. In 2003, he relocated to Berlin to manage electronic music artist Richie Hawtin and help a generation of ex-pats establish a creative community within the German capital. Award-winning media producer and documentary filmmaker whose accolades include 2018 and 2015 Midwest Regional Emmy Awards, being named a 2017 Kickstart Diversity Award Recipient by Big Vision Empty Wallet and a 2010 McKnight Fellow for Filmmaking, and selected as one of AV Multimedia Producer’s 2004 National “Top Producers Showcase”.
Mikkelson premiered her fifth feature, RISKING LIGHT, in Competition at the 2018 Cinequest Film Festival, listed by both the San Francisco Chronicle and Mercury Sun as one of the Top 10 films of Cinequest. The film has received strong reviews across the United States and Australia, screening at festivals including the Cleveland International Film Festival, Melbourne International Documentary Film Festival, Chania Film Festival (Greece), and being awarded "Audience Favorite" at the Big Water Film Festival and "Best of Fest" and the Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival. RISKING LIGHT is available on iTunes and will have its international broadcast premiere in late 2019.
Mikkelson’s work has been seen on PBS, OUTtv, and Free Speech TV, and has screened at international festivals including the Galway Film Fleadh, Cambridge Film Festival, International Documentary Festival Amsterdam, Leipzig DOK Market, American Indian Film Festival, and Washington DC Environmental Film Festival. Mikkelson has completed four award-winning independent feature documentaries, THE RED TAIL, GREEN GREEN WATER, THIS OBEDIENCE, and TREADING WATER: A DOCUMENTARY. A former television news reporter, Mikkelson has often produced for TPT (Twin Cities PBS) and documentary content for brands and causes around the world.
