About Me
Sav Rodgers is a filmmaker, writer, podcaster, film festival professional, and nonprofit executive. His work tends to center on the queer experience through a comedic or personal lens. He is the director of CHASING CHASING AMY, a feature documentary about the cultural impact of Chasing Amy (1997) on the greater LGBTQ+ community and the profound, lasting impact on himself. Sav also delivered a TED Talk about Chasing Amy’s impact on his life, titled “The rom-com that saved my life.” In 2019, he received the Filmmaker of the Year Award at the Austin Revolution Film Festival.
In 2014, Sav founded Professional Amateur Productions as a film student at the University of Kansas. Since its creation, Sav’s films have been featured at numerous film festivals worldwide, including Academy Award-qualifying events such as Slamdance and the Cleveland International Film Festival. His last short film, QUEEN FOR A DAY, made its international debut at the American Pavilion Emerging Filmmaker Showcase at the Cannes Film Festival. His upcoming movies include CHASING CHASING AMY, a surrealist short comedy called PANCAKE SKANK, and a mockumentary called TELETHON: THE QUEST TO SAVE GREASE 2’S REPUTATION.
In addition to his work as a director/writer, Sav is also the Founder and Executive Director of the Transgender Film Center. Launching in November 2020, the Transgender Film Center’s mission is to help trans creators bring finished films to audiences around the world. Sav has also programmed at numerous film festivals, including Slamdance, Outfest, and the Victoria Texas Independent Film Festival.
