About Me
Drew Swedberg is a filmmaker, cinematographer, educator, and film programmer. Through a relational process and poetic approach, his filmmaking orbits around the everyday dreams, rituals, and forces that shape the places he calls home. He gravitates towards non-linear structures, quotidian experiences, and haunted terrains—patiently composing a cinematic language for each film that is constructed at the quiet crossroads of the personal and political.
As a teaching artist based in Eastern Pennsylvania, he designs spaces for aspiring filmmakers to create media-based stories. He is currently teaching as an adjunct professor in Lafayette College’s Film and Media Studies program. Drew has led an array of film classes from elementary to college classrooms, most recently as a program facilitator for PBS39’s Production U and a visiting instructor in the LVAIC Documentary Storymaking program. He is moving through his feature directorial debut IN LOVE, IN MEMORY with co-director Shalon Buskirk. His second feature ILLUSIONS OF WINTER is currently in pre-production, drawing him back to his hometown in New Hampshire as the climate crisis escalates.
Drew has been awarded grants for his filmmaking from the Mellon Foundation, the Independence Public Media Foundation, the LEF Foundation, The Philadelphia Independent Media Fund, and Basement Poetry. He was a Film Independent Documentary Lab Fellow in 2022, a Visiting Fellow at Skidmore College’s MDOCS Storytellers’ Institute in 2020 and 2022, and an Artist-in-Residence for the Cultural Coalition of Allentown in 2019 and 2021. He has collaborated on three short documentaries as a Production Facilitator for Scribe Video Center’s Precious Places Program, and was a member of Scribe’s inaugural Film Scholar Program, supported by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He also led programming for two years as the Film Manager for the Civic Theatre, Allentown’s historic arthouse cinema. He is currently pursuing a low-residency MFA in Film at the Vermont College of Fine Arts.
